This policy explains what BUILT ADU collects when you use
builtadu.com, why we collect it, who else sees it, and what
you can ask us to do about it. We have tried to write it in plain English
rather than legal boilerplate.
Notice at collection — the short version
- We collect what you type into our inquiry form, and basic technical data about your visit.
- We use it to answer you, to carry out work you hire us for, and — only if you agree — to measure the site and our advertising.
- We do not sell your personal information. Allowing advertising cookies counts as “sharing” under California law; choosing Essential only opts you out.
- We keep inquiries for up to 3 years, and project records for the periods California requires of a licensed contractor.
- You can ask us what we hold, correct it, or have it deleted — see your rights.

What we collect
Information you give us
When you submit the project inquiry form, or contact us by phone or email,
we collect what you choose to tell us. On the inquiry form that is:
- Your name, email address and phone number
- The address of the property you are asking about
- Which best describes you (homeowner, investor, developer and so on)
- The type of project, and the services you are interested in
- Your estimated budget range and when you want to start
- Where you heard about us
- Any site plan, survey or photographs you choose to upload
We ask for the property address because we cannot answer a question about
what a lot supports without knowing which lot it is. Only the fields marked
required are required.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, ours records basic technical information when you
visit: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and
the site or search that sent you. If you accept analytics cookies, this is
also associated with a Google Analytics identifier so we can see which
pages actually help people plan a project.
The categories, in the terms California law uses
California asks businesses to describe personal information by
statutory category. This is the same information as above, mapped to
those categories.

We do not collect sensitive personal information as
California defines it — no social security numbers, financial
account details, precise geolocation from your device, health data,
racial or ethnic origin, or contents of your private communications.
We do not ask for any of it, and you should not send it to us.
Cookies, and what your choice actually changes
The banner you saw on your first visit is not decoration. Here is exactly
what each option does.

If you choose Essential only, none of the cookies in the
second table are set. Google’s tags still load, but they run in a
restricted mode (Google Consent Mode) that does not store an identifier for
you or use your visit for advertising.
You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site’s cookies
in your browser, which brings the banner back. You can also block cookies
entirely in your browser settings; the site will still work.
Why we use your information
- To answer you. Replying to an inquiry, preparing an estimate, arranging a site visit.
- To do the work. Permitting, scheduling, and coordinating an installation if you become a customer.
- To improve the site. Understanding which pages are useful, if you have accepted analytics.
- To advertise responsibly. Measuring whether our advertising reaches people who actually need this work, if you have accepted marketing cookies.
- To meet our obligations. Records we are required to keep as a licensed California contractor.
We do not use your information to make automated decisions about you, and
we do not send marketing emails to people who have only made an inquiry
unless they ask us to.
Who else sees it
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Google — Analytics, Tag Manager and Ads, for the measurement described above, and Google Workspace, which carries our email. Google Fonts also serves the typefaces on this site, which means Google receives your IP address when a page loads.
- Our website host, which stores the site and its database.
- Behold, which supplies the Instagram posts shown on our gallery page. This reads our own public Instagram account; it does not receive anything about you unless you click through to Instagram.
- Contractors, suppliers and inspectors working on your project, and only what they need to do their part of it.
- Anyone we are legally required to share it with, such as a permitting authority or in response to a lawful request.
Under California law, allowing advertising cookies can count as
“sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioural
advertising. Choosing Essential only on the cookie banner
opts you out of that.
Do not sell or share my personal information
We have never sold personal information and we do not intend
to. No one pays us for your details, and we do not pass them
to data brokers.
California law also covers “sharing”, which is narrower
than it sounds: it means disclosing information for cross-context
behavioural advertising. Allowing our advertising cookies does that.
You have two ways to opt out, and both work:
- Choose “Essential only” on the cookie banner. You can bring it back at any time by clearing this site’s cookies.
- Send a Global Privacy Control signal. If your browser or an extension sends GPC, we detect it and treat it as an opt-out automatically — you do not have to click anything, and we will tell you on the banner that we have honoured it. A GPC signal overrides an earlier “Accept all” for advertising.
Neither costs you anything, and neither changes the service you get
from us.
Your California privacy rights
If you live in California, the CCPA as amended by the CPRA gives you the
right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you and where it came from
- Delete it, subject to records we are required to keep
- Correct anything inaccurate
- Opt out of the sharing of your information for advertising
- Not be treated differently for exercising any of these rights

or call 714-353-1360. We will need to confirm
you are who you say you are before we act, and we will respond within the
timeframe the law requires. You may use an authorised agent.
How to make a request, and what happens next
- Email info@builtadu.com with “Privacy request” in the subject line, or call 714-353-1360.
- We confirm we received it within 10 business days, and answer within 45 days. If we genuinely need longer we will tell you why, and take no more than 90 days in total.
- We will ask you to confirm your identity first — usually by matching the details you gave us on the inquiry. We do this so nobody else can request your information, and we will not use what you send us for verification for anything else.
- You may use an authorised agent. We will ask for written permission from you, and may still confirm your identity directly.
- Requests are free. If one is clearly excessive or repetitive we may say so and explain why rather than quietly ignore it.
- If you are unhappy with our answer, reply and ask us to reconsider. You may also complain to the California Privacy Protection Agency or the California Attorney General.

If you ask us to delete your information we will, except where we are
legally required to keep it — and we will tell you which parts we
kept and why rather than leaving you guessing.
Keeping it safe
The site is served over an encrypted connection, and access to inquiries is
limited to the people at BUILT ADU who need it. No website can promise
perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise — but we do not
collect payment card details on this site, and we do not ask for social
security numbers or similar information through the website.
Children
This site is meant for adults arranging construction work. We do not
knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child
has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Other websites
Our pages link to Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and occasionally to
government or lender websites. Once you follow a link you are on someone
else’s site, under their policy, not ours.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information we will update this page and change
the date at the top. Material changes will be made obvious rather than
slipped in quietly.
